Follow these steps to get an API key from OpenAI and set usage limits. You’ll need this key for the Plugin AI System onboarding form.
Go to platform.openai.com and sign up (or log in with Google/Microsoft). You’ll need an email and a way to verify it.
OpenAI requires a payment method to use the API. Go to Settings (click your profile icon) → Billing → Payment methods, and add a card. You can set a low spending limit in the next step so you stay in control.

Click Create new secret key. Give it a name (e.g. “Plugin AI System onboarding”). Copy the key as soon as it’s shown — you won’t be able to see it again. Store it somewhere safe until you paste it into the Plugin AI System form.

Go to Settings → Billing → Limits (or Usage limits). Set a monthly budget and/or hard limit so you don’t get unexpected charges. For a new integration, start with a low cap (e.g. $10–20/month) and increase it later if needed.

Paste your API key into the OpenAI API Key field on the Plugin AI System onboarding form. The key is encrypted in your browser before it’s sent.
